Son's U.S. Nationals victory eases Troy Coughlin's pain from Pro Mod loss

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The pain from losing in the semifinals of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals washed away after JEGS.com Pro Mod driver Troy Coughlin watched his son win a few moments later.

The elder Coughlin had just lost to Rickie Smith in the Pro Mod semifinals on Monday at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, but then he was able to be with son T.J., who won in Super Gas.

"We definitely want to win, no doubt," Coughlin said. "But to see any one of the Coughlin family win is awesome. It's such a great feeling, and it eases the pain from the issue that we had tonight."

Coughlin was the No. 2 qualifier for the U.S. Nationals and marched through the first two rounds Monday, but against Smith he had a problem with his Corvette as he neared the finish line, enabling... [Read More]

Shane Gray wins Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Shane Gray and the Gray Motorsports team accomplished something truly remarkable today at Lucas Oil Raceway by winning the 60th anniversary Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, and they did so in dominating style as each of the three Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaros advanced to the semifinals and two moved ahead to square off for the most prestigious title in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Gray, of Mooresville, N.C., claimed the fourth NHRA Pro Stock trophy of his career in his 12th final round with a defeat of teammate Dave Connolly. Connolly launched with a .013-second reaction time to Gray's respectable .034 but soon got into trouble and shook the tires just as he was leaving the starting line. Gray sealed the win with a 6.641-second pass at 208.42 mph to Connolly's troubled 28-second run.

Smith races to Pro Mod victory at Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals

(9-1-2014) BROWNSBURG, IN – Reigning NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series world champion Rickie Smith raced to the NHRA Pro Mod Series victory Monday at the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the world’s most prestigious race. Pro Mod racing was presented by JEGS at the event.

Smith ran his ’68 IDG Camaro to a 5.901-second pass at 245.72 mph, defeating Pete Farber in the final. It was Smith’s second win of the season and sixth of his career. Smith, the runner-up at Indianapolis last season, defeated Danny Rowe, Jeff Naiser and Troy Coughlin on the way to the final.

Farber drove his CRC Brakeleen Dodge Daytona to the final round with victories over Steven Whiteley, Steve Matusek and Billy Glidden. It was his second final round appearance of the season, following a victory in Bristol. Farber was appearing... [Read More]

DeJoria, Crampton, S. Gray and Krawiec race to victory at Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals

(9-1-2014) BROWNSBURG, IN – Alexis DeJoria raced past 16-time Funny Car world champ John Force Monday to win the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the world’s most prestigious drag race.

Richie Crampton (Top Fuel), Shane Gray (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were first time winners at the tradition-rich NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, the last race of the regular season.

DeJoria crossed the finish line in 4.038 seconds at 310.34 mph in the Patron XO Cafe Toyota Camry to defeat the current Funny Car points leader, who won the Traxxas Nitro Shootout Sunday. It was the third win of DeJoria’s season and her first at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. With the victory, DeJoria became the fourth female winner of... [Read More]

Coughlin looks ahead to Countdown after bowing out early at Indy

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Defending Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. is looking forward to a run at the championship after the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge driver lost in the first round of the U.S. Nationals on Monday at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Coughlin won two races in the six-race Countdown to the Championship in 2013 en route to his fifth Pro Stock title. He also started off the Countdown with a victory at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C., and hopes to get off to a similar start this season.

"We'll turn our attention now to the Countdown," Coughlin said. "It's what we work the entire year for, to be in the elite top 10 and to be able to run for this championship. We'll finish somewhere in the top five and go from there."

Coughlin, gunning for his fourth U.S. Nationals victory in Pro... [Read More]

Brogdon's Owens Corning Camaro wins Best Appearing Car at U.S. Nationals

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Rodger Brogdon and his Owens Corning Chevrolet Camaro were winners even before final eliminations for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals began.

Brogdon's Camaro was voted Best Appearing Car at the U.S. Nationals, and he and his team were honored before driver introductions Monday at Lucas Oil Raceway.

"That's pretty cool," said Brogdon, who later dropped a first-round match to Jason Line. "The ol' Pink Panther car looks pretty sweet, and we're proud to win that award. Thanks to all the guys who designed the paint scheme; they did a helluva job."

Brogdon debuted the car this weekend thanks to a title sponsorship deal with Owens Corning, the world's largest manufacturer of fiberglass and related products and a Fortune 500 company.

Tucker continues to build momentum after weekend in Indianapolis

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – With only six total professional passes at Lucas Oil Raceway in his career, Pro Stock driver Shane Tucker had a solid weekend at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals despite a first-round loss.

A slight issue on his burnout couldn't faze Tucker, who ran his fastest speed of the weekend in round one of eliminations at 208.71 mph. With almost identical reaction times, .052 to .050, Tucker's Auzmet Chevrolet Camaro was just one-hundredth off from upsetting No. 3 seed Shane Gray.

"We were prepared for the track today for sure," Tucker said. "I haven't been able to look at the speed we ran but we really haven't found the sweet spot of the car yet. That's going against us a little bit but it's getting better. I felt good heading into the first round today.

Enders-Stevens is the No. 2 seed for Countdown after U.S. Nationals

(9-1-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals victory may have slipped through Engines Inc. Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens' fingers, but she still leaves Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on Monday very proud.

Enders-Stevens dropped a second-round match to Dave Connolly, but she will be the No. 2 seed when the Countdown to the Championship begins in two weeks at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C.

"Even though we didn't win the U.S. Nationals, and that was our goal, we can leave here with our heads held high," Enders-Stevens said. "We've got a good car and the best team in the sport. It would've been nice to win here, but it starts to matter at the next event."

Enders-Stevens has had a dream season, winning four national events and the K&N Horsepower Challenge.... [Read More]

Roth, Everitt, and Catanzaro win drag race finals at Grand Bend Motorplex; 2014 Championships also declared with Roth in PMRA, Schmid in Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Cryderman in PBSS

(9-1-2014) GRAND BEND, ON – Going into the 'Thunder by the Beach' race weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex over the weekend, championship titles were on the line as racers took to the quarter mile in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

This was the final event of 2014 for all three series.

And when the tire smoke had settled late Sunday afternoon, 2014 season champions were declared in all three drag race series, two titles by the smallest of margins.

Going into this event, perennial PMRA racer Jeff Roth was second in Championship Point Award Series behind Bruce Boland. Roth,... [Read More]

Records smashed at new-look Jambo

(9-1-2014) WILLOWBANK, QLD – Ten of the fastest sport compact cars on the planet combined with good conditions, a sticky Willowbank track and an awesome crowd to put on a show for the ages as Factory Xtreme set about the business of breaking records…world records!

The new look Brisbane Jamboree is the largest sport compact drag racing meet anywhere with almost 200 entries, dozens of traders, sideshows and thousands of excited spectators taking in the on and off-track action. And they weren’t disappointed with the big guns coming out firing in the very first round of qualifying.

Kiwi Rod Harvey, who dominated the timesheets at the recent Winternationals with a new Australian record of 6.19sec at 237mph, clicked off an easy 6.22 @ 231mph to open his account. Collin Willshire also featured in the opening... [Read More]
» Flamholc Racing Update

(9-1-2014) KLAGSHAMM, SE – The season in Europe is officially over for Flamholc Racing.

This has been the best season ever for us! We won the Pro Extreme series, and ended up in second place in the Top Doorslammer series, even though we missed one event. Big Congrats to Jonas and Frank who won it!

Again thanks from me to the guys in our team, to my family and our sponsors! The way we all work together makes us very strong, and when I go up to the line, I always know that I have the best prepared car possible!

We only lost one round in ten races this summer, and that run we couldnt make the call due to a bad starter ring.

Now I'm looking forward to head over to the US again, and do some racing with the Daytona. In two weeks we are flying over to work on the car, and do some updates, and... [Read More]

Brogdon's Owens Corning Camaro lines up No. 16 for U.S. Nationals

(8-31-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Rodger Brogdon's Owens Corning Camaro will make its first Pro Stock start at the biggest NHRA drag race of the season, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, on Monday at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Brogdon grabbed the No. 16 qualifying spot out of 21 cars that attempted to make the race, securing the position with a pass of 6.675 seconds at 207.43 mph.

"Of course we want to be much higher up in the order, but we don't always get our way, do we?" Brogdon said. "We haven't had the weekend we all wanted and expected with our new car, but you have to be in it to win it, and we'll give it our best shot tomorrow."

Brogdon secured title sponsorship from Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), the world's largest manufacturer of fiberglass and related products, for Indianapolis and... [Read More]

Anderson to decide his own fate on Monday at U.S. Nationals

(8-31-2014) INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson has been fighting all year. The veteran competitor who already owns four NHRA Pro Stock world championship trophies missed the first five races of the season as he recovered from heart surgery and upon his return consistently raced with a determined edge, regularly leaving the starting line ahead of his competitors and flying down the racetrack in pursuit of enough win lights and bonus points to work his way into the top 10 for a chance to battle for the trophy in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Anderson achieved the initial goal of moving into the elite group of 10, and on Monday at the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, his future will be decided by his own hand as he takes on rookie Jonathan Gray, who is just a round and a half away... [Read More]
