» Allen Puglia Wins Sixth Perth Motorplex Super Comp Track Championship
Puglia dedicates win to sponsors

(4-22-2014) WANNEROO, WA – The Big Rock Tyre Centre Probe has carried Allen Puglia to a shock grand final win at the Perth Motorplex last Saturday, sowing up a sixth Super Comp Drag Racing track championship for the Wanneroo based stonemason.

Puglia entered the final round of the 2013-14 series in third spot behind two young guns in Kyle Putland and Andrew Katavatis, who were expected to fight it out to the death, but a pair of start line blunders eliminated the two championship hopefuls early in the event, leaving Puglia with the unlikely opportunity to claw back the championship if only he could win the event.

With the track crowded by nervous stakeholders, Puglia saved his best for last staking a 7.18 second pass at 307kph to take out an ailing Brett Glover to win the Grand Final and claim the series in the process.

Pete Farber Racing CRC sponsored Daytona looks to make a move up the points ladder at NHRA SpringNationals

(4-22-2014) BALDWINVILLE, MA – After a disappointing start of the season on the newly build Dan Page 69’ Dodge Daytona Pro Mod at the NHRA Gatornationals in March, the team decided to regroup and visit Pete Farber’s old stomping grounds, the NEOPMA (Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association) Door Wars event April 11-13 at Maryland International Raceway.

“We had chassis setup issues at the Gators and did not have a lot of testing time prior to the Gators as we just completed the car a few weeks earlier.” Farber said. “Going to the NEOPMA Door Wars event which is quarter mile and similar rules to NHRA gave us a chance to get the chassis right and compete with some great Pro Mods.”

After struggling in Fridays test sessions and the first two qualifiers on Saturday, the team felt... [Read More]

Biondo off to a hot start

(4-22-2014) MASPETH, NY – Six-time NHRA national champion Peter Biondo is determined to add another title (or two) to his incredible sportsman drag racing legacy, and if the first two months of the 2014 season are any indication he’s off to a great start. Biondo finished the 2013 season on the west coast, where he drove to back-to-back Stock Eliminator final rounds at the last two stops on the 2013 NHRA tour, winning the Las Vegas Nationals and finishing as the runner-up at the NHRA Finals. Biondo and longtime car owner Phil Monteith elected to leave the cars on the west coast over the short offseason, and pick back up with the 2014 NHRA tour in February. The decision has proven to be a good one.

After average showings at the first two national events of the season, Biondo set the tone for weeks to come at the Division 7 LODRS opener in Phoenix, where he drove Monteith’s... [Read More]

Houston's Brogdon hopes to do well at hometown race

(4-22-2014) TOMBALL, TX – A wide smile crosses the face of ProtectTheHarvest.com Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon at the prospects of doing well at this weekend's O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals. That's because Royal Purple Raceway in Houston is his hometown track; Brogdon lives in Tomball, Texas, north of the city, and his race shop is housed in Houston.

"It would be fantastic for me and the whole team to win," Brogdon said. "We've struggled since we won in Bristol [Tenn.], and we haven't been able to take advantage of the few opportunities we've had since then.

"We've got to qualify in the top half of the field. That's one goal at a time."

That's the first goal, with other more lofty goals also on his mind. But first Brogdon knows small, incremental improvements are the only way to get where he wants... [Read More]

The time is now for reigning Pro Stock champion Coughlin

(4-21-2014) DELAWARE, OH – Six-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr.'s success at Royal Purple Raceway in the Houston suburb of Baytown is well-chronicled, with four Pro Stock victories at the venerable Southeast Texas speedplant. Now the driver of the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Dart is hoping the time is right to ring up No. 5 and get his 2014 title defense fully off the ground.

"We've had an extremely fast race car all year," Coughlin said. "Yet for whatever reason, our timing has just been a little off. We're qualifying well, setting career-best numbers, even taking the pole at one race, yet come race day we're falling on the wrong side of races that get decided by just fractions of a second.

"The sport of drag racing, and Pro Stock in particular, can be brutal. Over the course of time, I know we've taken the greater share of those... [Read More]

Another Pro Mod trophy on JEGS driver Coughlin's wish list

(4-21-2014) DELAWARE, OH – Just two races removed from one of the biggest victories in his professional drag racing career, two-time world champion Troy Coughlin is intent on claiming another Wally when the NHRA Pro Mod Series returns to action this weekend at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.

Coughlin, the 2012 Pro Mod champ, won his fifth race in the extremely popular class at the season-ending event last October in Las Vegas. The victory was significant because it marked the 100th national event win for the Coughlin family, which now fields cars from a third generation of drag racers, including Coughlin's own son Troy Jr.

"It was a special win for sure," the senior Coughlin said of his Las Vegas trophy. "Having my brother Jeg and my son T.J. there to celebrate made it even better. But that was then and this is... [Read More]

Knowles looks to strike it rich in "The Energy Capital of the World"

(4-21-2014) GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Many an oil man hustled their way to fortune around the Houston, TX area. This weekend Mike Knowles and his Blown Money team look to “strike it rich” drilling Christmas trees in “The Energy Capital of the World”.

Mike Knowles of Knowles Trucking and Knowles Enterprises is no stranger to the energy business or “drilling the tree”. The Grand Junction, Colorado resident makes his living in the energy sector but, he gets his thrills behind the wheel of his methanol burning 68’ Camaro rocketing down the ¼ mile at over 240 miles per hour. In his last outing, at the season opener in Gainesville, Fl, Knowles came up short in the first round but, not without taking a shot at the tree; “Drilling it” with a .037 reaction time and loosing by a mere 29 thousandths of a second. This weekend the Blown Money... [Read More]

Winning Top Sportsman team of Wilson & Gray ready to defend title

(4-21-2014) INGERSOLL, ON – When things are working well, leave it alone.

After winning the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship in 2013, the Top Sportsman team of Wilson & Gray plans no big changes for the upcoming season.

“We’re not doing too much new,” said team owner and driver Rob Gray, who along with Bill Wilson drives the 2002 Chevy Cavalier in the NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored series. “We will freshen up the car a bit, but we plan on using the same set-up as last year.”

Wilson and Gray share driving duties with the car, and the team has always been a solid and consistent performer in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition. And last year the team took home the title.

Take 2: PSCA returns to Auto Club Dragway

(4-21-2014) FONTANA, CA – After inclement weather ruined the Pacific Street Car Association's first attempted return to the Auto Club Dragway in two years, PSCA is finally racing in Fontana this weekend.

"We are thrilled to return to Fontana and were bummed that the rain kept us away last time," said PSCA President Mel Roth. "This track is a staple of Southern California drag racing and we are so glad to be back and racing."

With the points battle in every class tight heading into the third race of the 2014 season, fans can expect to see some of the best racing in the sanction's history in the PSCA's visit to SoCal. For an added thrill, the Grudge Lane will be open all weekend, allowing racers to settle beefs with other drivers on the track.

Also, both of PSCA's Jr. Dragster classes are competing this weekend, the first time... [Read More]

Stanley & Weiss Racing optimistic about new engine combo

(4-21-2014) HAGERSTOWN, MD – The first PDRA event held at The Rock was a rousing success with full stands and overflowing pits! And the numbers posted by the racers in attendance were mind numbing the entire weekend. World records were set and reset time and again! You c an read all about this great inaugural event at: pdra660.com

And as to our fortunes they were not so good for us as we found the weak links in our valve train with our new engine combination. We took advantage of the Friday testing day to try and get our arms around this new deal. Two hits netted us two aborted runs as the Camaro started to rattle the new Mickey Thompson Bubbas on the rear. When this happened the car was carrying the front end and turning left all at the same time. But having the excellent wheelman we do, John aborted both runs just past the 60 foot... [Read More]
