» Pete Berner/Quarter-Max Racing Update
Berner to sit out Rocky Mountain Nationals

(7-3-2008)
CRETE, IL – Pete Berner currently sits fifth in the Nitro Jam Pro Stock points standings, and he recently had a difficult decision to make concerning his run for the Championship. As we near the halfway point of the season, the points battle is tightening and the Championship chase is growing in intensity. In a year where gas prices have soared to all-time highs and people everywhere are feeling the effects of economic downfall, it is becoming increasingly difficult for racers to be competitive on a national and international level.

The fifth stop on the IHRA Nitro Jam tour lands in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, which for many racers is a 40+ hour drive, costing thousands in fuel alone. This financial burden is prohibiting some rac... [Read More]

Carpenter makes highly anticipated return to ADRL competition

(7-3-2008)
RADFORD, VA – After close to nine months, Charles Carpenter will make his long awaited return to the national event scene at this weekend’s 2nd annual Shelor.com Motor Mile ADRL Independence Drags in Radford, VA.

Make no mistake, however, the time away from the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League presented by the National Guard series was not spent idly. Carpenter sold his trusty ’55 Chevy soon after the close of the 2007 season, and spent the remaining months working with up-and-coming chassis builder Terry Murphy on the creation of brand new “shoebox” Chevy.

Since taking delivery of the car, Carpenter has been running the wheels off of it on the local Quick 8 scene in hopes of getting all the ... [Read More]

Northeast Outlaws to hold July events at Cecil County, Atco

(7-2-2008)
HUNTINGTON, NY – After battling unmerciful weather thus far in 2008, the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association is hoping for better conditions in the near future, as the fast doorslammer club announces two upcoming events in July. Club members are optimistic in their scheduled return to their home track, Cecil County Dragway on Saturday, July 5. On tap is a 1/4 mile contested 8-car shootout.

One week later, the Northeast Outlaws will roll into New Jersey's Atco Raceway for the first Lend America Northeast Outlaw "Extreme" race of the 2008 season, scheduled for Saturday, July 12. "Extreme" is a worthy description of this special event, as fans will be treated to a very diverse drag racing experience. Four distinct... [Read More]

(7-2-2008)
PLAINFIELD, CT – Paul Athey’s Red Eagle Racing team has re-launched the team website at www.paulathey.net. Paul and the team encourage everyone to stop by and check it out.

The site was built and designed from scratch by Stacy Hall out of nearby Ledyard, CT. Stacy is the wife of local Top Dragster driver Scott Hall, who is also part of the team. The website includes background on Paul Athey and how he’s formed Red Eagle Racing over the years and also features plenty of pictures from the past 10 plus years of racing.

After some thought and discussion with his many partners, Paul Athey will have his popular 1941 Willys out for the remainder of the season and an a... [Read More]

"I haven't been to Castrol Raceway since my rookie season (2006) but I remember how great the fans are up there and when it comes down to it that's why we do what we do because of the fans," said D'Aprile. Team Owner Mel Bush also has fond memories of the CARS RV, Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Torco Race Fuels. "I've been around this sport for a long time and the fans in Edmonton are as rabid as any. It's a great when you get ... [Read More]

Casella Racing ready for York Reunion and Nostalgia Nats, Throws out friendly challenge to area doorslammer competition

(6-30-2008)
MIDDLEBORO, MA – It’s certainly been an interesting and challenging Spring for Mike Casella and the rest of the Casella Racing crew. They’ve fought the typically fickle New England weather, a brand new tune-up, and a case of the melted piston blues (pictured).

“Well it’s all part of the game,” said team owner and driver Mike Casella. “We melted a piston pretty good on our last outing to the track up in Epping. To make a long story short, we had a retainer bolt break on our shaft rockers and that caused the pushrod to disengage the rocker arm, leaving the intake valve closed. When that happened, both stages of nitrous were flowing so all of the nitrous ... [Read More]

Barklage scores runner-up finish at KCIR

(6-30-2008)
KANSAS CITY, MO – Zach Barklage had a productive weekend with his Lucas Oil, Sunoco Race Fuels Pontiac GTO last weekend at Kansas City International Raceway’s 6th Annual Soul Brothers 1/8 mile Pro Mod race. Starting Sunday from the No. 3 spot, Barklage qualified with a 4.03 at over 180 MPH.

“Right now, the car is running very well,” said Zach Barklage. “We’ve worked very hard on our consistency, along with our speed and I feel we’re accomplishing what we’ve set out to do. The competition was tough and some teams were running very big numbers. This is one of the tracks we consider our hometown track, and I’ve spent a lot of time in Kansas City. We know the track well, so it always helps to know what to expect.”

Rain and curfew put a stop to Quick 8 Racers at O’Reilly Farmington Dragway

(6-30-2008)
MOCKSVILLE, NC – The Quick 8 Racers Association made a stop at O’Reilly Farmington Dragway on Saturday June 28th. At the last 3 Quick 8 shows Mother Nature played havoc on this group of racers. When the day started it was hot and humid with track temperatures reaching over 140° and air temperatures in the high to mid 90's.

The first round of qualifying began at 2:00 andthe track temperatures were still high with air temperatures still in the mid 90's. Everyone was thinking that there was no way that these doorslammers would run in the 4.0's because it was so hot but the top 4 qualifiers would prove them wrong. Steve Vick led the way with a 4.056 at 183.11. "Tricky" Rickie Smith wasn’t to far behind V... [Read More]

Mike Janis Racing heads west to IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals

(6-29-2008)
ELMA, NY – As a "great" American President once said, "There's an ole saying in Tennessee I know it's in Texas probably in Tennessee. That says, "Fool me once shame on… shame on you… fool me, can't get fooled again". I guess that best describes the attitude of Mike Janis Racing heading into the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Flash back to 2003 when Janis would have earned his second IHRA Pro Modified World Championship had he just attended the Edmonton event. Fast forward to 2007 when it happened again! Had Janis made the nearly 4,500 mile round trip he'd be a four time IHRA Pro Modified World Championship, not a two time champ. With all of that behind the Janis team, they are ready more tha... KC Auto Family Day PMRA event postponed at Cayuga Dragway

(6-29-2008)
CAYUGA, ON – The Southern Ontario weather did not cooperate, and the eliminations for the Fourth Annual KC Auto Family Day presented by Paul Wolf Electric & Lighting Supply Inc., Osram Sylvania and Independent Electrical Distributors have been postponed.

The third event in the 2008 Pro Modified Racing Association presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario schedule will be held at a future date.

A record number of 18 Pro Modifieds came to the Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park to do battle, and while Saturday’s qualifying sessions took place, the heavy rains Sunday stalled any opportunity for eliminations.

Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York took top spot in the f... [Read More]

U.S. Nationals will be blend of old and new for JEGS series

(6-29-2008)
DELAWARE, OH – The JEGS ProMod Challenge field for the 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals will be one of the most star-studded in NHRA history. Four of six former JEGS series champions -- Josh Hernandez (2007), Jay Payne (2006), Shannon Jenkins (2002), and "Tricky Rickie" Smith (2001) -- will lead the way, but will certainly be challenged by many of today's top drivers.

Tour regulars like points leader Tony Pontieri will be joined by two-time '08 winner Joe Baker, Atlanta titlist Eddie Ware, and Bristol champ Steve Engel in the fight for drag racing's biggest prize.

Six-time IHRA champion Scotty Cannon and Von Smith will also come out of hibernation to compete.

"It should be quite a ... [Read More]

CAYUGA, ON – Pro Modified Racing Association hosted a record number of 18 cars for the Fourth Annual KC Auto Family Day presented by Paul Wolf Electric & Lighting Supply Inc., Osram Sylvania and Independent Electrical Distributors Saturday on the Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park, but due to time restraints and moisture late in the evening, the eliminations will take place Sunday, June 29.

The race is the third in the 2008 PMRA schedule presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario.

After three rounds of qualifying, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York, took number one spot in the G-Force Race Cars 1967 Camaro with a 6.166-second, 227.08-mph pass. Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, qualifie... [Read More]
